Thursday nights debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was…underwhelming.
Biden, 81-years-old, definitely showed his age. In the beginning, there were moments where he paused or seemed unable to keep his train of thought. While that might cause alarm for those who are hellbent on criticizing Biden and his age, the response from some in the public was melodramatic, exaggerated, and over-the-top.
I love and respect President Biden, they say, but I was hurt, terrified, and scared for us as a nation, they claim, as I watched him be a shell of his formal self, they lament.
Give me a break…
You would think Biden was wheeled out, unable to form words, and communicating with the help of an aide.
As the debate went on, Biden gained his bearings, and beat Trump easily. Biden answered the questions he was asked honestly, he listed his achievements as president, and he gave his plans to deal with issues like climate change, keeping Medicare alive, and lowering taxes for those who aren’t wealthy.
Trump dodged answering questions about his plans to solve the nation’s problems because he couldn’t. Trump doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing.
As reported by The Guardian —
Moderators in the first presidential debate in 2024 took a completely hands-off approach to factchecking the candidates, letting lies and half-truths, most frequently from Donald Trump, remain unchallenged.
The former president frequently ignored the questions posed by CNN moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, instead talking about whatever he wanted. In a few instances, they reiterated the question and gave Trump a chance to answer it again.
Even Biden posted on X about his performance last night —
Folks, I might not walk as easily or talk as smoothly as I used to.
I might not debate as well as I used to.
But what I do know is how to tell the truth.
Yet, the media, who is absolutely biased towards Trump, and I don’t know why, acted as if Biden lost the trust of the American people, and those who were going to vote for him, with his debate performance.
I don’t feel that way. Many people I know also don’t feel that way.
I think Biden is capable of performing his job for another four years.
Who isn’t capable?
the orange one with 34 felony convictions who tried to overthrow the American government
Do you hear Republicans saying this?
of course not
For some reason, the New York Times editorial board decided to post an editorial stating that Biden should step down for the sake of the nation.
As reported by The Hill —
The New York Times editorial board called on President Biden to suspend his campaign after his shaky debate performance against former President Trump on Thursday.
“Mr. Biden has said that he is the candidate with the best chance of taking on this threat of tyranny and defeating it. His argument rests largely on the fact that he beat Mr. Trump in 2020,” the board wrote. “That is no longer a sufficient rationale for why Mr. Biden should be the Democratic nominee this year.”
Weak.
If you really understand that democracy is on the line, stand behind the Democratic nominee.
Joe Biden is competent and is closing a successful four-year presidency.
The Democratic party is not competent enough to stand behind its candidate.
It’s a shame.

An excellent piece. As usual.
